A citizen of the Republic of Moldova with a permanent residence permit (trvalý pobyt) or a long-term temporary residence permit (přechodný dlouhodobý pobyt) in the Czech Republic valid for a period longer than 1 year, must apply to the competent local authority (municipality) within 3 months from the issuance of the residence permit in order to obtain a Czech Driving License in exchange for a Driving License issued in the Republic of Moldova.

According to Article 116 of Act No. 361/2000 on Road Traffic, if the local authority has doubts on the validity of Driving Licenses issued in the Republic of Moldova, it can check their validity at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Prague.

When exchanging the Driving License, a competent local authority will issue a Driving License with identical categories and subcategories what are listed in the Driving License issued in the Republic of Moldova.

The competent local authority shall withdraw and return in Moldova the previous Driving License, issuing a Czech Driving License. At the request of the holder, the competent local authority shall keep the previous license until the re-replacement of the Czech Driving License with retained Moldovan Driving License.

The driving license issued in the Republic of Moldova is not valid, if its holder has on the territory of the Czech Republic a permanent residence permit (trvalý pobyt) or a long-term temporary residence permit (přechodný dlouhodobý pobyt) for a period longer than one year, and if the holder not applied for the replacement of a Driving License issued in Republic of Moldova.

Old Driving Licenses issued in the Czech Republic before 30 June 1964 and Driving Licenses issued in the Czech Republic between 1 July 1964 and 31 December 1993 are invalid.

Driving Licenses issued in the Czech Republic between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 2000 must be replaced before 31 December 2010.

Driving licenses issued in the Czech Republic between 1 January 2001 and 30 April 2004 must be replaced before 31 December 2013.

The validity of the Driving Licenses issued in the Czech Republic between 1 January 1994 and 30 April 2004 will expire on the date fixed for their complete replacement.
