The Ministry of Information Technologies and Communication (MITC) together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) adopted a decision on simplification of procedure for obtaining passports at the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Moldova abroad.

The joint decision on procedures for issuing passports to the Republic of Moldova citizens in Moldovan diplomatic and consular representatives was elaborated by experts of the MITC and MFAEI. The decision will enter into force after its publication in “Monitorul Oficial”. Detailed information will be available soon on the website: www.registru.md.

“The main purpose of the decision consists in ensuring issuance of passports to citizens with temporary residence abroad, including those who obtained or reacquired Moldovan citizenship”, said Mr. Alexander Oleinic, Minister of Information Technologies and Communication, adding that this decision was included into the package of measures on simplification of procedure for obtaining identity documents.

This decision provides opportunity to the Republic of Moldova citizens, temporary staying abroad, to apply for passports at diplomatic and consular missions in cases of passport validity expiration, theft or loss abroad, as well as to apply for the second passport and receive birth certificate of their children born abroad. Applicants have to address the consular section presenting their identity card, to fill in necessary form, as well as to bring with them a photo, corresponding to the standards of the State Enterprise “SIRC Registru”.

MFAEI will ensure the receipt of applications and issuance of documents in all Moldovan diplomatic and consular representatives, and MITC will ensure production of documents.

Applications will be processed within 30-day term.

Recently the MITC had announced about a set of measures taken to facilitate procedures for obtaining identity documents, about the reduction of their cost within several weeks, as well as about the receipt of applications through the Internet and offices of the State Enterprise “Posta Moldovei”, etc.
