Parliament Speaker and acting President Mihai Ghimpu had on 19 February a meeting with new-appointed Czech Ambassador Jaromir Kvapil, the parliament's media relations department has said.
The sides hailed the high level of the Moldovan-Czech bilateral cooperation. Ghimpu highly appreciated the support offered by the Czech Republic for Moldova's EU aspirations, support felt mainly in the period when this country held the EU Presidency. Ghimpu praised the Czech Republic for the organization of the launching summit of the Eastern Partnership held in Prague on 7 May 2009. He also thanked the Czech Republic for its participation along with another 16 EU states in the informal group of support for Moldova's EU bid, the first meeting of which was held in Brussels on 25 January 2010.
Ghimpu also noted that the economic Forum Moldova Presents, held in Prague on 5 November 2009, brought together 32 Moldovan companies and 50 Czech companies. The event opened up new prospects of cooperation between the two countries.
At the same time, the acting president said that the two states' economic potential has not been fully used yet. He pointed out the opportunity to increase foreign investments in Moldova's economy, saying that Moldova's economy will manage to develop due to investments and democratic reforms.
For his part, Jaromir Kvapil said he would do his utmost to foster the Moldovan-Czech bilateral relations and will support the current Moldovan authorities in the implementation of domestic reforms and integration into the European family. |
