Deputy Premier, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca on 9 February visited Hague, where he met Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans, the chairman of the commission for foreign policy of the Chamber of Representatives, Henk Jan Ormel, and the director general for international cooperation of the Foreign Ministry, Andre Haspels.
The Dutch officials praised the results obtained by the Moldovan government and pointed out that the Netherlands is interested to invest in Moldova's political stability. The delegations discussed subjects included on the bilateral agenda, laying the emphasis on initiatives related to the restoration of cooperation in various sectors in order to help internal reforms in Moldova advance. The two sides expressed common interest in making the economic relations more dynamic and agreed on comprehensive assistance for Moldova's economic development and on the identification of most important aspects in this respect. The Dutch officials reiterated their country's position to back Moldova meet its European integration goal and fulfil top priorities. Leanca said that the Moldovan government wants to foster negotiations on a liberalized visa regime and on a free trade agreement with the EU. At the end of the meeting with the chairman of the commission for foreign policy of the Chamber of Representatives, Henk Jan Ormel, the sides expressed wish and openness to turn to account the parliamentary dimension of the bilateral cooperation by stepping up ties between the two countries' legislative bodies.
