Speaker of the Parliament and Acting President of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu has met outgoing Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Moldova Petr Kypr.
President Mihai Ghimpu thanked the Czech diplomat for his personal contribution to the development of cooperation relations between Moldova and the Czech Republic.
Mihai Ghimpu praised the support provided by the Czech Republic for Moldova's European integration aspirations - support given especially on the period when this country held the EU Presidency. It is worth mentioning that, also in this period, on 7 May 2009, an EU summit on the launch of the Eastern Partnership was held in Prague. Moldova is a member of this partnership as well.
An economic forum, Moldova Presents, was conducted in Prague on 5 November 2009, in which 32 Moldovan and 50 Czech companies participated. Th forum opened new prospects for economic cooperation between the two countries.
At the same time, the president said that the potential of the Moldovan-Czech economic relations has not been fully turned to account. Mihai Ghimpu emphasized the need to increase the Czech investments in Moldova, given that Moldova will manage to overcome the economic crisis due to foreign investments and democratic reforms that will be implemented.
Referring to the domestic political situation, the speaker said that the Alliance for European Integration will undertake actions to avoid a snap parliamentary election. A commission for constitutional reform was set up to this end. The commission is to make proposals to amend or adopt a new constitution by democratic means. The draft will be sent to the Venice Commission for examination.
For his part, Petr Kypr said that his country will provide every support to the present Moldovan leadership to carry out internal reforms, and successfully cover the way towards the integration into the European family. |
