State Secretary at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry Elisabeth Walaas paid a working visit to Chisinau on 16-17 November.
During a meeting of Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman with her Norwegian counterpart, the officials assessed the cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields, especially within a memorandum on understanding between the Moldovan and Norwegian governments on Norway's contribution to the consolidation of the state based on the rule of law in Moldova. The sides highlighted the efficiency of the Norwegian experts' mission, HORLAM, involved in the implementation of joint projects with the Justice Ministry, Prosecutor General's Office, Moldovan Bar of Lawyers, department for Penitentiary Institutions, as well as with the Probation Service at the Execution Department. The Moldovan side thanked the Norwegian authorities for the support. Inter alia, Natalia Gherman appreciated Norway's contribution to implementing a project on the destruction of a stock of fragmentation ammunitions of the Moldovan Armed Forces. Natalia Gherman and Elisabeth Walaas referred to concrete aspects of Moldova's progress on the European integration path. They official spoke out for boosting contacts to take over the Norwegian experience in diverse areas. The Norwegian diplomat met Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca. Elisabeth Walaas also participated in the inauguration of an appeal centre at MAEIE, as Norway is one of the principal donors which helped launch this project. |
