The Moldovan-Romanian intergovernmental Agreement on small-distance cross-border movement entered into force on 26 February. The applications for cross-border permits may be submitted to the Consular Section of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau as of March 1, 2010.

Subsequently similar applications will be accepted by two new Romanian consular offices to be opened soon in Balti and Cahul, in northern and southern part of Moldova, respectively.

According to the new Agreement, over 1,200 million Moldovan citizens residing within a 30-50-km-wide strip from the border will be able to cross the border of Romania without visa.
