Moldova's accession to the Energy Community on 18 December 2009 was approved at the seventh meeting of the Energy Community's Ministerial Council, held in Zagreb, Croatia.

The getting of the status of full-fledged member of the Energy Community is a strategic priority for the government. This position will allow Moldova integrating into the regional energy market, will enhance the degree of the country's energy security, and will stimulate the wooing of foreign investments in the field.
