The second meeting of the joint committee assessing the implementation of the Moldova-EU agreement on readmission of illegal migrants and the fourth meeting of the joint committee assessing the implementation of the agreement on the facilitation of the visa regime between the EU and Moldova were held in Brussels on 16 December.
Moldova's delegation was led by the director of the MAEIE consular affairs department, Mihai Capatina. During the meeting of the joint committee assessing the implementation of the Moldova-EU agreement on readmission of illegal migrants, the sides presented data on cases of readmission of Moldovan citizens from third countries. They also referred to cases when the agreement was infringed. At the same time, the sides considered the latest evolutions in the negotiations and signing of additional protocols on the implementation of this agreement. The meeting of the joint committee assessing the implementation of the agreement on the facilitation of the visa regime between the EU and Moldova aimed at examining cases of failure to fulfill the agreement by EU member states, as well as eventual steps necessary to be undertaken by both sides to launch dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime in 2010. At the same time, the European Commission informed about the results of the report on the assessment of the implementation of the agreements on the facilitation of the visa regime with third countries and the provisions of the future EU Visa Code. In this respect, the sides agreed to identify additional mechanisms which will facilitate the Moldova-EU cooperation in visa policy. |
