Prime Minister Vlad Filat has met today with the Czech investors. H.E. Jaromír Kvapil, Czech Ambassador to Moldova, attended also the meeting.
The sides discussed Czech investment projects in Moldova. In particular, they talked about the construction of a power station in the town of Ungheni. The guests informed Vlad Filat about the implementation stage of the project and pointed out some actions that are to be undertaken jointly with the Moldovan authorities in order to secure the project's safe implementation, including in terms of coordination of actions with Romanian partners.
Filat said that energy security and identification of alternative sources of electric and thermal energy is a priority for the Moldovan government.
"But the ecological aspect of projects of this kind is very important to us," he said.
The Czech representatives gave assurances that the most up-to-date technologies would be used while constructing and during the functioning of the station, which would meet all the European standards, in particular ecological norms. The project will help enhance Moldova's energy security and will not damage the region's environment due to the fact that the station will not run on natural gas but on coal and biomass, they said.
Jaromír Kvapil voiced hope that this project would be completed in three years and that many other Czech investment projects would be implemented in Moldova during his mandate.
The investments made in this project are to amount to 615 million euros, including for infrastructure, creation of new jobs, enhancement of national energy security, as well as regional heating supply.
