The president and the Czech acting prime minister had a face-to-face meeting, after which the delegations of Moldova and the EU held an enlarged meeting. Vladimir Voronin and Mirek Topolanek made press statements on their discussions. In his tenure of European Union acting chairman, Mirek Topolanek expressed the European institutions' concern about the situation in Moldova following the 5 April 2009 parliamentary polls. He specified that Moldova's pro-European orientation is very important for the European Union. The European official stressed EU's interest in the swift identification of a solution for the stabilisation of the social and political situation in Moldova, highlighting the European institutions' willingness to support the Moldovan authorities s efforts in this direction. Mirek Topolanek underlined the importance to maintain a constant dialogue so as to improve the state of things. He appreciated the political will proved by the authorities as regards the launch of this dialogue with the parties. Topolanek emphasized the EU's willingness to develop collaboration with Moldova, referring particularly to the opportunities given by the Eastern Partnership. President Vladimir Voronin stressed the importance of Mirek Topolanek's visit to Chisinau, underlining that this shows EU's interest in the events taking place in Moldova. The head of state expressed the Moldovan leadership's intention to further act so as to normalise the situation in Moldova by means of dialogue and consensus. |
